From north to south Sri Lanka measures 434 km and
from east to west 225 km. Alltogether Sri Lanka is about 65’525 sqm
large.
Capital City is Colombo. Sri Lanka’s poluation is
exceeding 21 mio. 75 percent of them are Singhalese, 18 percent Tamils
and 7 percent Moslems.
Approximately 70 percent are Buddhists, 16 percent
Hindus, 7 percent Moslems and 7 percent Christians.
Local currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR)
Singhalese, Tamil are spoken and English is the most
used foreign language. In the touristic centers a few words of German
are understood and a quite good communication is possible with key
persons.
Touristic
areas are mainly situated round the southwestern and the southern
regions of the country.
